IUP has received a gift to help continue the Nurse Faculty Loan Program from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.
The gift of $338,682 will go to the program that provides loan forgiveness for up to 85% of the loans borrowed through the program for students in the master’s and doctoral nursing programs who commit to serving as a nursing educator at any accredited school of nursing or as a clinical educator at an accredited health facility for four years. This marks the third year that IUP has received funding for the program.
In a statement, IUP Department of Nursing professor and Doctoral program coordinator said that the program will help fill a shortage of nurses and nursing faculty. She added that “Funding from the NFLP grant provides the financial support for nurses to complete their advanced education and our graduates are prepared to fill these faculty roles.”
The gift is part of the Impact 150 campaign, which is raising money in honor of the university’s now-over 150 years of existence. The program is seeking to raise $150 million, the most in the university’s history.
