The drug kingpin that was arrested as part of “Operation Lake Effect” was sentenced to additional prison time for racketeering charges at Cambria County Prison.
U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan ordered 27-year-old Marcos Monnarez, Jr. to serve an additional 33 months of prison time and three years of probation for the charges connected with incidents while he was serving a life sentence for violating the federal Kingpin statute and money laundering in 2023. Monnarez bribed corrections officers and medical staff between July and December of 2023 in an effort to smuggle contraband into the prison, including cell phones and drugs, which were then sold to inmates. He also directed multiple people to send and receive money for the contraband on his behalf.
