Steelers coach Mike McCarthy said yesterday the entire team held a Zoom call with the NFL about the trip this week to Paris to play the New Orleans Saints. Nation-wide protests over the French economy, complete with arson, looting, and violence against police, have caused concern over security for the teams.
McCarthy says the team and the league can keep them safe.
The Saints flew to Paris yesterday. The Steelers won’t go until Thursday. McCarthy says they feel that’s the best way to keep the players in sync with their regular weekly schedule.
After the game in Paris, the Steelers will play the Browns on November 1st and then have their bye week.
The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo reports that wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is returning to the Steelers, after his release by the LA Chargers last weekend. The 6-4 nine-year veteran played the first four seasons of his NFL career with Aaron Rodgers, and his rookie season with the Packers was with Mike McCarthy as head coach. Valdez-Scantling caught ten passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in five games with the Steelers last season, and had two receptions in three games with the Chargers this season. He would likely sign with the Steelers’ practice squad.

After playing with a superficial blood clot in his calf two weeks ago and then being placed on injured reserve this past week, Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is now done for the rest of the season. His agent and the Eagles say Hurts has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning the clot has traveled to his lungs. He’ll be treated with blood thinners for at least three months.
