The victim in the fatal fire in Derry Borough on October 5th has been identified.
Westmoreland County Coroner John Ackerman announced yesterday that 58-year-old Carol Banko died in the fire at an apartment building on Brown Way at 10:44 PM. She was declared dead at 12:24 the next morning. One other tenant was able to get out safely, and a third was not at home at the time. Emergency officials said that a hoarding situation in Banko’s apartment complicated firefighting efforts.
