The good news for the Penguins was Sidney Crosby’s first two goals of the season, but the bad news was a soft goal given up by rookie goaltender Sergei Murashov, leading to a loss to the Blackhawks.
The Pens turned over the puck behind their own net in the first minute, giving up a goal to rookie Teuvo Teravainen. Sidney Crosby tied the game at one with his first goal of the season, but they fell behind again, 3-1 before Nick Robertson scored his fourth and Crosby his second to tie the game at 3. But the Blackhawks scored again as Teravainen’s bad-angle wrister beat Sergei Murashov, and they then scored into the empty net to give Chicago a 5-3 win.
Coach Dan Muse thought the Pens missed a chance to build on the momentum of Saturday’s win over the Stars.
Muse says the Penguins lost an opportunity against a team that had won only once this season.
Sidney Crosby said it was nice to get two goals, but it would have been better to get a win.
After missing three games for conditioning, forward Andrei Kuzmenko was activated and played on the third line.
The Penguins will visit the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Then they’re in Vegas on Saturday and Salt Lake City on Monday.
