More information was released concerning the arrival of Breeze Airlines to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.
The Westmoreland County Airport Authority announced yesterday that it signed a two-year agreement with the low-cost airline to provide service from the airport in Unity Township. Twice-a-week service to Mrytle Beach will begin February 9th, while twice-a-week flights to Orlando will begin May 26th. Airport officials say the delay in the start of service to Orlando is due to airplane availability. Details on the deal have not been released by the authority or the company. Officials with Breeze Airlines said that Latrobe has always been on the company’s radar and that the market in Westmoreland County has proven itself.
The news of Breeze’s arrival comes five months after the previous tenant, Spirit Airlines, declared bankruptcy and abruptly stopped operations. Meanwhile, the $22 million terminal expansion project is nearly complete which will offer two gates for its passengers, meaning two flights can be served at the same time.
