Steelers running back Rico Dowdle said yesterday that he may be able to return to practice after suffering a dislocated toe in the New England game three weeks ago. He isn’t fully healed but getting closer, so he’ll give it a go. However, if it keeps popping out of joint, Dowdle said he would need to have a pin surgically inserted.
The Steelers begin practicing today for Sunday’s game against the Colts.
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham says he isn’t concerned with the outbursts by some of his veteran players in the Cleveland game last Thursday. He appreciates the fiery spirit.
Offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio was asked yesterday why the offense has performed better when Aaron Rodgers gets under center than they have when he’s operating out of the shotgun.
The Steelers are still looking for help in the defensive backfield. Yesterday they signed former Bears cornerback Terell Smith off of Washington’s practice squad. Smith hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2024, spending all of last season on the Bears’ injured reserve list with a torn patellar tendon. He was released by Chicago in August.
A couple of other moves: they released outside linebacker Braydyn Swinson from the practice squad and replaced him with former Browns outside ‘backer K.J. Henry, who’d been with the Steelers twice before.
