Officials with Indiana Borough, IUP, State Police and the County Sheriff’s office have issued a joint letter to students and to businesses about safety related matters heading into IUP’s Homecoming weekend.
Both letters refer to parties that are typically held that are outside the scheduled events from IUP. Businesses are being asked to identify sites that are being approached with requests to host parties between October 8th and 10th. While there have not been specific threats or knowledge of unlawful activity reported, the request was made to better understand where the gatherings happen and to speak with businesses and organizers to understand and communicate potential safety concerns. They ask that businesses get the contact information of the person planning the event, ask pertinent questions and notify authorities.
Students are reminded that parties can get out of hand quickly, and unexpected guests can show up if the party is advertised on social media. They advise that if things get suspicious or out of hand, call the authorities immediately. They also remind everyone that gatherings on rooftops are unsafe and prohibited.
