Last year, the Pirates’ Esmerlyn Valdez was the sensation of the Arizona Fall League. This year, it might be Wyatt Sanford’s turn.
The shortstop opened the fall league season with the AFL’s first home run, a solo shot in a 9-4 loss for the Glendale Desert Dogs to the Salt River Rafters on Saturday and followed it up with two hits and a walk in a 5-2 loss to Scottsboro yesterday.
Sanford was the Bucs’ second round draft choice in 2024. He hit 19 home runs with Bradenton and Greensboro in Class A ball this season and is expected to play for Altoona to start the 2027 season.
