What a start to the season for the Penguins, who went into Philadelphia and battered the Flyers last night. Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
The Penguins were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 2-for-4 on the power play.
Coach Dan Muse says it was a complete team effort.
Right after the opening faceoff, Pens’ captain Sidney Crosby laid out the Flyers’ Travis Konecny with a massive check. Muse says that’s the kind of leadership Crosby brings in his 22nd season.
With Bryan Rust starting the season on injured reserve, Muse needed a winger to skate with Crosby and Rickard Rakell on the top line. He found his man in Nick Robertson.
Sidney Crosby says the shortened preseason meant the Penguins needed to be on top of their game right from the opening faceoff.
Crosby says it’s important that the veteran Penguins blend their new teammates into the mix, and that was evident last night.
Nick Robertson arrived via a trade with Toronto over the summer. He enjoyed skating on the top line with Crosby and Rakell.
Forward Blake Lizotte was activated before the game and skated on the fourth line.
