The Pirates’ Jared Jones is the National League Pitcher of the Month for September and Mason Montgomery is the Reliever of the Month.
Jones was 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA in five September starts. He struck out forty and walked only four and opposing batters hit just .133 against him.
Montgomery converted 11 saves in 13 appearances in September, with a 2.08 ERA in thirteen innings. He gave up just three earned runs, on Saturday when he surrendered his only blown save, and he struck out thirteen.

In the Major League Wild Card openers yesterday, the Braves rallied to beat the Phillies 5-3. The White Sox cruised to a 6-3 win over the Astros. The two nighttime games were blowouts. The Yankees blasted the Red Sox 9-0 and the Padres bombed the Cubs, 8-0.
The Braves, White Sox, Yankees, and Padres all look to clinch their best-of-three series today.
