A former Marion Center High School basketball standout has been honored by the Pennsylvania Communication Association as the Speaker of the Year.
Mia Oterson, who played basketball for UPJ and is currently an assistant coach with the Mountain Cats, was recognized for a speech exploring the connection between coaching and communication, asserting that the best coaches are good communicators and that her career at UPJ has given her lifetime relationships.
UPJ athletic director Abby Gearhart says Oterson “does an amazing job building relationships across the community,” commending her for her passion and her heart for UPJ and its student-athletes.
The award was presented at the PCA’s annual conference, which was held this year at UPJ. The Pennsylvania Communicators Association is an organization dedicated to promoting teaching, research, service, and development in all areas of human communication.
Oterson graduated from UPJ Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 2021.
