After a few delays, the “Superload” shipment of equipment for Homer City Generation’s power plant will begin today.
Edwards Moving and Rigging will start transporting the equipment around 9:00 this morning from Schenley in Armstrong County. It will go towards Leechburg and Apollo before taking Route 66 to Delmont, then turn off onto Route 22 moving towards Blairsville. The first pull-off will be at 5:00 PM near Blairsville for equipment installation. Movement is expected to resume at 7:00 PM and crews will close Route 22 East three miles west of Blairsville from 7:00 PM until the end of the travel day at Midnight. The rest of this trip will be made tomorrow starting at 9:00.
HCG officials say between now and October, Edwards will transport fifteen heat recovery steam generators. They weigh between 228,000 and 438,000 pounds and are being shipped on specialized modular trailers.
Travel dates and times may change due to weather conditions. State police and other officials will be on hand to help with traffic, but HCG is asking people to remain alert and follow the directions of traffic control personnel and give the crews enough room to work.
