The Pennsylvania Department of Health continues to deal with an outbreak of measles in the commonwealth.
The department reports that as of yesterday, 676 cases have been confirmed in Pennsylvania for this year, with 664 of them since April when the outbreak reportedly began in Lancaster County. Indiana County’s case count has increased to 11 since last week. In surrounding counties Jefferson County has 26 cases, Armstrong , Cambria and Westmoreland Counties each have one and Clearfield County has 16.
Lancaster still has the highest number of cases reported this year with 295.
According to the department’s dashboard, there have been only two measles-related deaths in the state, and 123 people have been hospitalized.
Officials say that the best way to protect yourself against measles is to get vaccinated. State health officials have administered nearly 4,300 MMR vaccinations at 130 pop-up vaccination clinics in the affected communities since the outbreak began in late April.
