On the NHL Media Tour in Las Vegas yesterday, Sidney Crosby said his agent has had contract talks with the Penguins and he’d “like to continue playing for a number of years,” unless his “mind and body” say otherwise.
Entering the final year of his current two-year contract, the 39-year-old says he is in no rush to get a deal done, and there is no timeline.
Crosby led the Penguins in scoring with 74 points in 68 games last year, including 29 goals in a year in which he suffered a knee injury during the Olympics. He said he feels “pretty good” heading into training camp.
The Penguins yesterday named the 27 players they will send to the Detroit Prospects Challenge this weekend, and they include the Ruck twins, brothers Liam and Markus Ruck, who were the top two draft picks this year. Other big-name prospects include defensemen Harrison Brunicke, Peyton Kettles, and Jake Livanavage, forwards Bill Zonnon, Atley Calvert, Tanner Howe, and Carter Sanderson, and goaltender Matvei Nikonovich.
The first Penguins’ game in the Prospects Challenge will be Saturday against Columbus. They’ll play the Red Wings on Sunday and the Stars on Tuesday.
