Officials with Homer City Generation and Amazon will discuss a potential group of data centers that could come to the location of the new natural gas-fired power plant today.
According to documents for tomorrow’s meeting of Indiana County’s Office of Planning and Development, Amazon is proposing to acquire 2200 acres of property in Center and Blacklick Townships and build 39 data centers with ancillary and related operational facilities. The buildings will be two stories and 70-feet long, and would be built over a 10-year period. The company expects between 1,500 and 2,000 permanent jobs and salaries ranging from $80,000 to $100,000. Amazon wishes to put forward an “appropriate Community Benefits Agreement” to mitigate the impact to the communities affected and will not seek any tax incentives on the local and county level. The company is also looking to pay costs associated with any new electrical infrastructure needed for the data centers.
