Measles cases continue to spread in our region.
The PA Department of Health reported a slight uptick in Indiana County in the number of cases from 8 to 9 over the last week. However, one case has now been reported in Armstrong County. There’s still just one case in Westmoreland County and Jefferson County is now reporting 23 cases.
Across the state, there have been 119 new cases reported over the last week, bringing the total for the year at 540. 528 of those cases have been since April when the measles outbreak started in Lancaster County.
This comes as state Department of Health officials announced that an out of state person may have exposed people to measles at the PA Turnpike Service Plaza in New Stanton in Westmoreland County on August 17th. Anyone who visited there that day are asked to confirm their vaccination status and check for symptoms. Anyone not vaccinated against measles and may have been exposed should contact their health care provider or the Department of Health at 877-724-3528.
