The Steelers got down to the 53-man roster limit yesterday with a few surprising moves, including all ten draft picks making the final roster. And with second-year quarterback Will Howard also making the team, they will carry four quarterbacks into the season.
Among the veterans who were let go were inside linebackers Elandon Roberts and Malik Harrison and defensive lineman Dean Lowry.
Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was activated from the PUP list and joined the active roster.
In addition to keeping all of their draft choices, the Steelers also kept an undrafted rookie free agent, defensive tackle Kevin Jobity Jr.
The Steelers also traded two players over the weekend. Offensive tackle Broderick Jones, the team’s number one draft pick in 2023, was traded to Dallas along with a fourth round draft pick in exchange for the Cowboys’ third and sixth round picks next season. Running back Kaleb Johnson was traded to Green Bay for a sixth round choice.
Many of the players released yesterday will be re-signed to the Steelers’ practice squad, which will be announced today.
The Steelers host Atlanta for the season opener on September 13th.

Former Pitt star Aaron Donald is back in the NFL after two seasons in retirement. The 10-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman agreed to a one-year $20 million deal to return to the playing field for the Rams, for whom he had 110 career sacks in ten seasons.
