The Steelers announced the first round of roster cuts as they try to get the roster size down to 53 players by Sunday night. Among the 11 players in the first round of cuts are Alex Tecza, who was signed this past week. Others cut include center Gregory Crippen and defensive backs Jaylon Guilbeau, Tamon Lynum, Brandon Hill, Safety Jack Henderson, cornerback Daryl Porter, tight end Jaheim Bell and wide receivers Jakobie Keeney-James, Isaiah Winstead and Cornell Powell. More cuts are expected to be announced through the weekend.
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike McCarthy is planning to make room for four quarterbacks on his roster. After last night’s preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills, McCarthy said second-year man Will Howard and third-round rookie Drew Allar have secured spots on the 53-man roster behind Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph. McCarthy believes he has two signal callers he can win with right now, and two he’s excited to develop during the season.
