The Pirates are in St. Louis tonight for the opener of their three-game series against the Cardinals. Jared Jones (2-5, 4.76 ERA) starts for the Bucs against Quinn Matthews (0-2, 6.43 ERA).
Both pitchers are looking to grab some momentum heading into September. Jones hasn’t won a game since July 18th and the Pirates have lost the last six times he’s started. Last Saturday, he gave up two runs on three hits and walked five in four innings against the Dodgers. Matthews made his Major League debut on the first of this month and in his first two starts, he gave up two runs in six innings, then one run in four, but last Saturday he surrendered seven runs in five against the Phillies.
Because of high school football, tonight’s Pirates game will not be airing on WCCS.
