A Maryland man charged in connection with a chase in March of this year is scheduled to be sentenced today.
Court documents show 26-year-old Diymon Womble of Hagerstown, Maryland pleaded guilty to flight to avoid apprehension, fleeing or attempting to elude police, evading arrest or detention on foot, and reckless endangerment for an incident on March 24th in Blairsville. Borough police on that day saw him getting into his car on Veterans Drive. He was wanted on a warrant out of Cambria County. When police tried to stop him near a gas station on Villa Road and Route 22, Womble took off and lead police on a chase that ended on East Brown Street and Grandview Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a utility pole and some hedges. He then went on a foot chase and was taken into custody at a home on Veterans Drive.
Also due for a sentencing hearing this morning is 36-year-old Steven McClurg, who was found guilty of simple assault and harassment in connection with a case in July of last year at a home in Washington Township. Through their investigation, state troopers discovered that McClurg threw picture frames off the wall then assaulted the female victim. Police reported injuries on her face and body.
