The Indiana County Commissioners will address an issue that has popped up as of late concerning A.I. data centers today.
The issue is with non-disclosure agreements and county policy concerning them. Those against the construction of the natural gas-fired power plant and the possible installation of an Amazon Data Center in Center Township have asked the county to adopt an ordinance that would prohibit county officials signing NDA’s with private entities or individuals.
The proposed ordinance has garnered support of local environmentalists, including the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club, who have sent a letter to the Indiana County Commissioners. In that letter, they say that “AI data centers typically consume large amounts of land and water, and produce constant noise,” and put a strain on the electricity grid. They also say that NDA’s are “a frustrating barrier to public understanding and involvement in decisions that can have a profound effect on their communities.”
