Pennsylvania American Water Company has announced that additional credits are being added to customers’ bills as a result of a settlement with those who make PFAS chemicals.
The credit of $6.13 for all active water customers was made possible through the state Public Utility Commission approval of PAWC’s PFAS Litigation Universal Credit Rider, which allows the company to provide settlement proceeds directly to customers as they are received. Including the most recent credit that was handed out late last month, customers have received $36.89 apiece in PFAS-related settlements.
According to a statement, the company remains in compliance with current PFAS drinking water standards and has completed treatment upgrades in several communities. They plan on spending about $321 million to expand treatments across multiple water systems throughout the state.
