Earlier this week, PennDOT announced that 50 projects, including one in Indiana County, were selected for $54 million in state funding through the Multimodal Transportation Fund.
The grants for the highway, bridge, aviation, port, bike and pedestrian projects are meant to improve safety, strengthen local economies and enhance mobility across the state. PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said in a statement that long-lasting transportation projects will continue across the state thanks to this fund. He added, “Whether we’re making roadways more accessible to all modes of travel or creating new connections for businesses investing in our communities, we’re investing in projects that make people’s lives better.”
Indiana County will receive $1,627,912 to replace the Chestnut Street Bridge in East Wheatfield Township.
Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted starting September 14th, with the application period ending on October 30th. Grant recipients for funding available in summer 2027 are expected to be announced next year.
