The final practice at St. Vincent College is today for the Steelers. They can only hope it isn’t quite as physical as it was yesterday, when the session was interrupted by a melee touched off by a couple of hits by newly-arrived linebacker Elandon Roberts, one of them on Jaylen Warren. Coaches stepped in to finally break up the rowdiness.
Limited by injuries for almost all of training camp, safety DeShon Elliott was a full participant. He played only five games last season due to knee and hamstring injuries.
Receivers DK Metcalfe and Michael Pittman Jr. sat out again, but rookie receiver/returner Kaden Wetjen returned to practice. Top draft pick Max Iheanachor remained out with a neck and shoulder injury. Others missing from the practice field yesterday included defensive backs Jacquan Brisker, Brandin Echols, and Israel Mukuamu, defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, and receiver Brandon Smith.
The Steelers’ second preseason game is Friday night at the New York Jets.
