On the night that the Pirates honored Josh Harrison for his contributions to the team, they pulled off a nice win against the Boston Red Sox. Joe Block reports.
The Pirates did lose Nick Gonzales during the game. He was hit by a pitch and pulled with a facial contusion. He will be evaluated by team doctors but is listed now as day-to-day.
The Pirates will play the Red Sox again tonight. Jared Jones will start for the Pirates. (2-4, 5.03 ERA) while Sonny Gray toes the rubber for Boston (14-3, 2.79 ERA). Airtime is 6:55 on WCCS with a first pitch at 7:15.
At the start of the week, it was expected that Oneil Cruz would be activated in time for this series. The Post-Gazette reports that he will remain with double-A Altoona for the weekend as he continues a rehab assignment. He has gone 2 for 13 in four games in Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He was placed on the injured list initially with a fractured hand back in June.
