A First Amendment advocacy group is giving over a dozen Pennsylvania universities a less-than-ideal rating when it comes to policies that can impact free speech.
A total of eleven universities in the Keystone State received a “yellow light” review from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. This rating means that these schools have policies in place that could be used to suppress protected speech among students, according to the organization. Universities that fall into this category include Pitt, Duquesne, and locally, IUP.
Haverford College, Lafayette College, Villanova and Drexel are listed as “red light” schools, with those universities said to have at least one policy that clearly restricts freedom of speech.
No schools in Pennsylvania received a “green light” rating, meaning policies do not seriously threaten student expression.
