Indiana Borough officials are inviting the public to an open house on August 11th to talk about the proposed nomination of the borough’s historic district to the National Register of Historic Places.
The registry is the nation’s official list of places recognized for their significance in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering and culture. The proposed nomination is the culmination of the borough’s Historic Resource Survey Project that started in November of 2024. This event will give residents, business owners and others the chance to ask questions and learn more about the nomination process. It will also go over what the designation will and will not do for property owners.
The open house will be held from 4:00 to 4:30 on the 11th at the Indiana Borough Building before the Planning Commission meeting. If the Commission recommends the nomination, it will move on to the Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Board for consideration this fall.
