The Indiana County Municipal Emergency Services Authority is facing a lawsuit from East Wheatfield Township officials.
The lawsuit claims that the township did not authorize or know about the EMS fee billing that is being sent to local residents by Berkheimer. The lawsuit was filed late last month. ICMESA officials say that an enacted township supervisory ordinance permits the $75 fee.
The bills started going out on July 27th, with $75 charged for residents and $100-$300 charged to businesses depending on how many employees they have. Thirty-one of Indiana County’s thirty-eight municipalities are signed on to use the Emergency Services Authority. The lawsuit is asking for an injunction to stop the billing process.
Officials are asking people who have problems or concerns to contact their municipalities and not the county commissioners office if they have any questions or concerns about ICMESA.
