Pennsylvania high schools can now get grant money to help transition to later start times for students.
A provision in the latest state budget makes funding available for districts trying to shift classes to better line up with the natural sleep patterns of teens. A new state law recommends that high schools avoid start times earlier than 8:30 a.m.
Researchers say teens tend to stay up later than young children or adults due to delayed sleep hormone release.
