The Steelers report to training camp at Saint Vincent tomorrow, with new head coach Mike McCarthy eager to get his hands on a team that won the AFC North last season, seems to have improved since then, and yet is being picked to finish out of the playoffs and under .500 by many pro football forecasters.
There are plenty of questions for McCarthy to sort through, including how to handle a quarterback room crowded with four legit candidates to make the team. He’ll have to decide whether to go with two backups or three.
McCarthy won’t have much say about whether or not cornerback Joey Porter Jr. gets a new contract, but he’ll be interested in the pace of the negotiations, and whether or not Porter is on the field for the first workout on Wednesday and moving forward.
There are other decisions to be made, including the final mix on the offensive line, the inside linebacker rotation, and finding enough playing time for four talented edge rushers.
The first workout of Steelers training camp is Wednesday at 11:20 AM. The parking lots at Saint Vincent will open at 8:15 and the gates at 8:30. Admission for fans is free, but you must have a mobile ticket, which you can get at steelers.com.
The first preseason game is August 13th against Green Bay at Acrisure Stadium.
