The Dallas Stars have reached a pre-arbitration one-year contract agreement with star forward Jason Robertson, an often-identified Penguins trade target. The $12 million deal seemingly takes Robertson off the trade market, forcing the Penguins to look elsewhere for a top-six forward. The Pens traded for and signed Robertson’s brother, Nick, recently and multiple sources said they were pushing hard to get Jason.
Former Penguins defenseman John Marino has signed a massive deal with the Utah Mammoth. Coming off a career-high 36-point season, he inked an eight-year extension that will pay him $54 million.
The Pens traded Marino to New Jersey in 2022, getting defenseman Ty Smith, who played only nine games for them, and a third round 2023 draft pick, which they then sent to the Rangers in return for another draft pick, which they used for defenseman Emil Pieniniemi. After a contentious and fractured minor league career with the Pens, Pieniniemi was traded to Florida last month.
