Our area is still under an air quality alert as wildfire smoke from the north makes its way into the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a Code Purple Air Quality Alert for all of Indiana County and the surrounding communities. The alert remains in effect until midnight Friday night.
Smoke from ongoing wildfires in Canada is expected to keep fine particle pollution at unhealthy levels. A Code Purple means the air is considered unhealthy for everyone, not just sensitive groups. Health officials recommend limiting prolonged outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise, and keeping windows closed when possible. Anyone with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions should take extra precautions and follow their doctor’s recommendations.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Peyton Simmers says that air quality is expected to improve once the smoke moves out of the region later this weekend.
Because of the poor air quality, Mack Park Pool will be closed for the day.
