The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for Indiana County and surrounding communities through midnight Thursday night.
Smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota is expected to move back into the region today. While much of the smoke remained high in the atmosphere overnight, forecasters predict it will gradually sink closer to the surface during the day, causing air quality to worsen, especially this afternoon and evening.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection urges sensitive groups, including young children, older adults, and anyone with heart or lung conditions, to reduce prolonged outdoor activity if smoke concentrations increase.
