Yesterday, members of the state Senate returned to Harrisburg to continue work on the state budget.
Members of the Senate Appropriations Committee were in session on Friday to vote on bills needed to complete a legislative package negotiated by the Senate, House and Governor Josh Shapiro for the 2026-27 budget, now 11 days overdue. The Committee is scheduled to reconvene tonight to amend the general appropriations bill which will contain most of the $50 billion-plus in overall spending for the coming year.
Meanwhile, the state House Appropriations Committee will hold a voting meeting today and the House will convene on Sunday.
Sticking points for the 2026-27 budget include the legalization of recreational marijuana and skill games, the rate of spending and Pennsylvania’s minimum wage.
