As Independence Day celebrations often include fireworks, that may be of some concern for pets who are not used to the idea.
Beth Finegan with the Humane Society of Indiana County said that there are more pets that are lost over the 4th of July holiday as they get scared during fireworks displays or people setting them off in their backyard. She said there are a few things people can do to make sure their pets remain anxiety-free.
She also advises that the pets have their collars on with identification and that they are microchipped to make sure they are easily returned to their rightful owners.
Also with the extreme heat, people are advised to not leave animals in cars outside as the interior temperature of a car can rise quickly. Also make sure the pet has fresh clean water, and watch out for symptoms of overheating.
