The Pirates started the weekend series against the Nationals on the wrong note. Joe Block reports.
The two teams play again today, with Braxton Ashcraft starting. He is 8-3 with a 3.33 ERA. Zack Littell will start for the Nationals. He is 7-6 with a 5.29 ERA. There is a special airtime today of 10:40 on WCCS with first pitch coming at 11:05.
While the Oldies Attic will be interrupted on-air for the Pirates, it will continue on wccsradio.com as we do not have the rights to broadcast the Pirates on our live stream.
In other baseball news, former Pirate Andrew McCutchen signed a minor-league deal yesterday with the Atlanta Braves with hopes that he still has something left in the gas tank. McCutchen started the season with the Texas Rangers, but was released in late May after a sluggish start at the plate. The 39-year-old is a former National League MVP. He’ll report to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he’ll join 40-year-old first baseman Carlos Santana as a veteran leader.
