Today is Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It specifically focuses on the day in 1865 that Union Troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the end of slavery.
The holiday is recognized on the federal and state levels, which means those offices are closed for today, including PennDOT’s Driver’s License Centers. State liquor stores are open today as normal. Post offices are closed today, and there is no regular mail delivery. Many banks are closed for the day as well, but will still offer service through their websites, apps and ATMs.
County government offices are open today.
