The annual Pennsylvania Hero Walk is in Westmoreland County this morning and will make its way into Indiana County tonight and tomorrow.
The walk is a fundraiser to help veterans in Pennsylvania through the Kiski Valley Veterans and Patriots Association. The first walk was held in 2009 and has raised close to $3 million in the ensuing years to help vets from all branches and eras.
This portion of the walk is starting in Ligonier and is expected to arrive at the Eagles Lodge in Derry Borough at 11:30 this morning. From there, they will hike 18.8 miles to Blairsville Veterans Memorial Park and is expected to arrive at 3:45 this afternoon. A dinner is scheduled for tonight at the Blairsville VFW Post on Route 22 at 6:00.
Tomorrow, they will leave starting at the Sheetz in Blairsville and will head to the Saltsburg VFW, arriving at 12:30. It will then head towards Apollo and stop at Vandegrift tonight. The walk is expected to come to an end this Saturday in Lower Burrell after covering just over 300 miles.
