The Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin has committed to play in the “Match of the Year,” an annual charity game featuring Russian players from the NHL against players from Russia’s KHL. Other stars who will play in the game include the Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin, the Rangers’ Artemi Panarin and Igor Shesterkin, the Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky, the Flyers’ Matvei Michkov, and the Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin.
The game will be July 25th in St. Petersburg, Russia at 11 AM Eastern time.
NHL
After joining Vegas in March and leading them to the Stanley Cup Finals, John Tortorella has been replaced as the full-time head coach by Ryan Craig, who has coached the Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate for the last three seasons. Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon announced on Tuesday that Tortorella would not return.
Toronto hired Jim Hiller as their coach yesterday, leaving Edmonton as the only NHL team without a head coach.
