A bill that would provide funding for the PA Promise Pilot Program passed the state house and is on its way to the senate.
The program’s goal is to make college more affordable and lessen student debt for students attending a Pennsylvania Community College, a state-owned university, a state-related institution or the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. Tuition and fees for students that qualify for the program along with room and board for the most at-need students who attend a public university or college. APSCUF President Kenneth Mash said in a statement that the union has supported the plan and called the program a necessity as many are asking for affordable education and the opportunity to receive that education.
The bill passed 119-83 with Representatives Jim Struzzi and Brian Smith voting against the measure.
