The Indiana-based DC Diamonds 14U softball team captured their first championship of the season at the WoTown Throwdown in Worthington over the weekend. DC walked off the Pittsburgh Predators, 11-10, in the semifinals with a bases-loaded walk before beating the host team, AC River’s Fury, 7-3, in the championship.
Catcher Elly Hinds had no trouble reaching base, getting on nine times thanks to four walks, three singles and two doubles. Kylie Sweeney hit her first career home run during Saturday’s pool play round and Kenzie Jacobson added four singles, a walk and a hit by pitch.
Brynn Bodenhorn pitched all six innings in the championship game, earning the win after giving up only six hits and two strikeouts.
The DC Diamonds will be in New Concord, Ohio next weekend in the “Diamonds, Dugouts and Dads” Father’s Day Tournament.
