Things may be getting worse at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport now that the hub does not have a commercial airline. Yesterday, the operators of Preferred Casino Tours LLC. told Westmoreland County officials they may be permanently ending regular charter service out of Palmer as well.
The issue is the TSA pulled agents out of Palmer last month after Spirit Airlines, the airport’s online commercial carrier, shut down. Owners of Preferred Casino Tours say the airport will need to arrange to have TSA screeners on-site in order for their twice-monthly charters to continue. Officials with the Westmoreland County Airport Authority say it is unlikely that the TSA will return to Palmer unless another commercial airline begins operating out of the facility. Westmoreland County Airport Authority Executive Director Maurice Haas said he will meet with the TSA and does not expect a resolution to be forthcoming.
