An Apollo man is facing charges of attempted child luring in Kiskiminetas Township in Armstrong County.
State police say they were called out on May 31st to a location on Pine Circle to investigate the incident. Police talked with the woman, who said a black Jeep Compass came up on May 28th and the driver, later identified as 58-year-old Walter Mitchell, offered him a dollar to get in the van with him. According to the criminal complaint, the woman told Mitchell multiple times to leave, but he started crying and said he loved little boys. Police found him during an investigation into another incident where he showed up intoxicated at a home on Hazel Drive and shouted slurs at the homeowner in front of his two children.
Mitchell has denied luring the child, saying he was arguing with the mother after the boy ran out in front of the vehicle.
Mitchell is now in Armstrong County Jail as he was unable to post $20,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing was set for June 11th but that has been cancelled.
