A new Pennsylvania law named in honor of a Schuylkill County teenager will require automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, at all PIAA-sanctioned athletic events and practices.
Senator Rosemary Brown joined the family of Greg Moyer on Friday to announce the enactment of Greg Moyer’s Law, now Act 17 of 2026. Moyer died in 2000 after suffering sudden cardiac arrest during a high school basketball game. An AED did not arrive until nearly 40 minutes later. The new law also strengthens emergency action plans for sudden cardiac arrest in schools.
Supporters say sudden cardiac arrest remains the leading cause of death among young athletes, and that immediate access to an AED can dramatically improve survival rates when emergencies occur.
