An Indiana University of Pennsylvania alumna has created a new scholarship to support future teachers.
Doctor Diane Taylor McGeehan, a 1972 IUP graduate originally from Tokyo, Japan, donated the gift as part of the university’s Impact 150 fundraising campaign.
The scholarship will provide financial support to students planning careers in education, with preference given to English and education majors. McGeehan says she created the scholarship to help future educators achieve their teaching goals and called teaching one of the most important professions.
After graduating from IUP, McGeehan went on to earn multiple advanced degrees and spent more than 30 years teaching at the grade school, high school, and college levels.
