Northern Cambria could muster only three hits off three Claysburg-Kimmel pitchers as the Colts fell to the Bulldogs, 3-1, in the Class A semifinals. Penn State recruit Mason Compagna singled, doubled, and tripled, and his booming triple in the second inning drove in two runs. Shortstop Brayden Haney had a big day in the field, with seven assists and two putouts for the Bulldogs. For Northern Cambria, Zak Kirsch had two hits, singles in the first and seventh innings, and Levi Czar also had a hit. Northern Cambria’s season ends with a 14-7 record.
Claysburg-Kimmel moves on to the District 6 championship game next Wednesday against the winner of today’s game between Homer-Center and Juniata Valley. The fifth-seeded Wildcats come into the game after bashing Saint Joseph, 16-3 on Monday. Nash Budner had three hits and drove in four runs in that game and Eli Turk had three hits and drove in three, and Budner struck out nine Wolfpack batters. Top seed Juniata Valley beat Williamsburg in the quarterfinals, 8-4.
In last year’s District 6 title game, Homer-Center rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win over Juniata Valley.
