With Ryan O’Hearn on the injured list with a bad quad, the Pirates are hoping to add more pop with the addition of outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez, who’s been called up from Indianapolis. The Bucs’ number nine prospect was hitting .263 with ten home runs, ten doubles, 33 walks, and twenty-nine RBIs in his first season at Triple-A. Versatile outfielder Billy Cook was sent down to Indy.
ALTOONA
Altoona scored twice in the bottom of the tenth to walk-off Erie, 7-6. Javier Rivas’s second hit of the game, a single, tied it in the tenth, and Duce Gourson walked to force in the winning run. Derek Berg homered for the Curve and PJ Hilson had two hits, including a double.
