Indiana has made playing – and winning – close baseball games a habit, and they did so again yesterday in the WPIAL Quad-A semifinals, with a shutout win over Derry at Plum High School.
Pat Dougherty has the story.
Elizabeth Forward erased a 3-1 deficit in the fifth inning to tie the game and then beat Hopewell 4-3 with another run in the sixth.
Coach Dan Petroff says his guys are seasoned and focused on winning their next game, and to them it doesn’t matter how big the spotlight is.
Petroff credited Derry for fighting hard, and said his guys responded.
It’s the third straight WPIAL championship game appearance for Indiana, which lost 7-5 to North Catholic two years ago and beat Elizabeth Forward 4-2 on Charlie Manzi’s tenth-inning home run last year for their first-ever WPIAL title.
