The Pirates finally got some pitching last night, from both the starter and the bullpen, as they shut out the Cardinals.
Joe Block has the recap.
Manager Donnie Kelly says Carmen Mlodzinski gave the Pirates just what they needed in his five innings of work.
Kelly enjoyed the output of his hitters, who banged out fifteen hits.
In addition to Konnor Griffin’s four hits, Nick Gonzalez, Endy Rodriguez, Jhostynxon Garcia and Jake Magum all had two.
Looking for some bullpen help, the Pirates optioned reliever Isaac Matson to Indianapolis and recalled pitcher Wilbur Dotel.
ALTOONA
Erie topped the Curve 10-6 in the second game of their series last night in Altoona. Curve shortstop Javier Rivas had a single, triple, and homer, centerfielder PJ Hilson and leftfielder Titus Dumitru both had two hits, and catcher Derek Berg homered.
Connor Wietgrefe starts for Altoona tonight in the third game of the series.
